YWAM Support letter

Dear Friends and Family,

We hope that you all are doing well! We wanted to send you this letter to give you an update of this past year and let you know the awesome opportunity we feel God is leading us into. As most of you know we got married on October 3, 2009. We have loved every minute of being married, and are so thankful for the friends and family God has given us.

In February of 2010 we found out we were pregnant with our first child. We, as well as our families, were very excited when we found out about the baby. Everything was going well until we went to our 12 week check up. We had been waiting to hear the baby's heartbeat for the first time and the day had finally arrived. When we got back into the room the doctor came in and started trying to find the baby's heartbeat. When she couldn't find it she said it was normal for a baby that small. Immediately she took us back to the ultra sound room. After a few minutes of looking around and asking us some questions, she told us that she could not see the baby and that we had had a miscarriage.

Hearing her say that was one of the saddest and most heartbreaking moments of our lives. We scheduled a D&C for the following morning. A few weeks later at our post-op visit the Dr. told us that the labs had come back positive for a partial molar pregnancy. This meant had everything gone right, we would have had twins. Unfortunately one of the babies didn't develop and therefore became a tumor because of an abnormality in the placenta. Hearing this meant that we would have to wait a year before attempting to have another child. Becoming pregnant before the year is up, could cause Courtney to get cancer.

We spent time praying about how God wanted us to use this time in our lives. We felt he was calling us overseas to do missions. We spent time researching and praying about where God wanted us to go, and we were immediately directed to Herrnhut, Germany through an organization called Youth With A Mission (YWAM). We started the application process.

We were excited when we heard that they had accepted us for the October 2, 2010 – April 2, 2011 Mobile Discipleship Training School (DTS). This school will be a time of intense spiritual growth and learning for us. Our daily DTS schedule includes, but is not limited to: teachings from international speakers, corporate worship, intercession, devotions, small groups, work duties, community life, and preparation for outreach (the locations of which, at this point, are undetermined).

We will be starting our lecture phase in Herrrnhut, Germany, but then will be on the road to go beyond and minister in the darkest boroughs. We will feel God’s mercy for the prostitutes of Amsterdam, His broken heart for the Muslim migrants that live in the ghettos of Paris, and he drug addicts in the streets of Hamburg.

We are coming to you to ask for your support both in prayer and financially for this journey that we are about to undertake. We know that the date is approaching quickly, but believe that God will help us reach the amount required of $14,000 by September 26, 2010. Since YWAM is overseas using a Euros based currency, checks cannot be made payable to them. Therefore, checks should be made payable to Kevin & Courtney Root. They will be deposited into a designated account overseen by David & Julie Todd. We can receive support while overseas since David & Julie Todd will be overseeing our account.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach us at the email address provided below. We ask that you pray and ask God whether he is leading you in supporting us financially and/or in prayer. We plan on having a newsletter/blog that will be sent out at least once a month if not more. Our blog read at www.kandcroot.blogspot.com. Thank you in advance for your time & support, and we love you all. We can't to see where God is going to take us over the next year.

  1. I just came over from your mom's blog...

I remember your mom requesting prayer for you after the miscarriage...it was especially heartbreaking for me as my son and DIL had experienced the same thing just a few months prior to that...seasons such as that are when we are so thankful we are not alone...

What a wonderful ministry you have been called to carry out! Will definitely be praying and looking forward to reading your updates about the trip...

  2. Hey Kev & Court,
Lamb wanted to leave a comment here and she had typed out the whole thing but then it wouldn't let her post. She asked me to ask you to fix it so she could comment. She comments "anonymously"... as she does not want to get an account.

I am so proud of you both and can't wait to see what amazing things God is going to do in your lives!

    Love you both!
    Julie
